2012 Student Art Exhibition Prospectus

Original works completed in the last school year by student artists in grades K-12.
Deliver works for entry on Tuesday, March 6, 5-7pm to Fast Frame.
One Best-of-Show Award and Juror Citation Awards for Each Grade Level

Statement of Purpose

The Dogwood Arts Festival 2012 Student Art Show was developed to provide a forum for student artists to display their work, and compete for awards. The juried art that is selected for exhibition will feature both traditional and non-traditional work and will be exhibited at the Clayton Center for the Arts in the Denso Gallery, 502 East Lamar Alexander Parkway, Maryville, TN 37804-5907. As a featured event of the Dogwood Arts Festival, the exhibit will be open from Friday, April 6 – Friday, April 27, 2012, Monday through Friday, 10:00 am to 6:00 pm.

An Opening Reception and Awards Ceremony will be held at the Clayton Center for the Arts in the Denso Gallery on Friday, April 6, 2012 from 5-9 pm. Awards will be presented at 7:00 pm. All artist, their families and friends are encouraged and invited to attend this wonderful celebration.

Eligibility

Open to all student artists in grades K-12, in Knox and surrounding counties. Teachers should select a total of two entries to submit in the competition.

Submit only work completed within the last school year. Entries must be original works in the following categories: Painting, Drawing, Sculpture, Ceramics, Digital Photography, Traditional Photography, Computer Graphics, Mixed-Media, and Printmaking. The maximum allowed size is 22” X 28”. Weight is not to exceed 50 lbs. Works must be matted before delivery to Fast Frame. 3-D works should be sturdy and stable or otherwise secured to a base. The juror reserves the right to disqualify any work not suitably presented.

All outer edges on matted 2-D work should conform to either: 11”X14”, 16”X20”, or 22”X28”. This will allow Fast Frame to professionally frame submitted art work. (Frames will become the property of the student artists at the conclusion of the exhibition, compliments of Fast Frame!)

Entry Procedure

Entries are limited to two artworks per teacher. Diptychs and triptychs are considered one work. Entries are juried by actual works. Complete and print-out the entry form for each piece entered, bring the artwork and two copies of each entry form to Fast Frame, 119 North Peters Road, Knoxville, TN 37923.

Delivery

Artworks and 2 entry forms for each artwork must be submitted in person on Tuesday, March 6, 5-7pm. Works must be labeled with title, artist’s name, teacher’s name and school, grade, and contact information. Late or damaged work will not be accepted.

Pick up of work not juried into the exhibit

Work that is not juried into the exhibition must be picked up at Fast Frame by 5pm on Tuesday, March 13th. Any work not picked up by the teacher or student will be discarded. Fast Frame or the Dogwood Arts Festival offices have no room to store artwork not claimed by the collection date.

Liability

Receipt of the completed application form constitutes your agreement with all conditions established in the prospectus. Consent to reproduce works photographically for promotional purposes is assumed to be granted unless stated otherwise. Care will be taken when handling the works. The artist does not hold Dogwood Arts Festival or its partners responsible for damage or loss that may occur in connection with the Student Art Show.

Return of Work

Exhibited work must be picked up at the Clayton Center for the Arts, Monday, April 30, 2012 from 10 am to 6 pm.

Schedule

  • March 6 – Deliver artwork/entry forms to Fast Frame, 119 North Peters Road, 5-7pm
  • March 7 – Adjudication of works
  • March 9 – Emailed confirmation of artwork juried into exhibition
  • March 13 – Pick up artwork not juried into exhibition by 5 pm at Fast Frame
  • April 6 – Opening Exhibit Reception, 5-9 pm @ Clayton Center for the Arts
  • April 6-27 – Exhibit Open Monday through Friday, 10 am to 6 pm
  • April 30 – Pick up your student’s artwork at the Clayton Center for the Arts, 10 am to 6 pm

Awards

Several scholarship offerings to accredited Colleges of Fine Art will be awarded to high school students –more information concerning the institutions and amounts will be announced at the awards ceremony. Awards include a one Best-of-Show Award and Juror Citation awards for each grade level as designated by the juror(s), whose decision is final.

  • Best of Show receives $250 for the student and $100 for the teacher.
  • Jurors Citations receive $50 for one student in each grade level.
  • Awarded works may be used in the 2012 Dogwood Arts Festival publicity materials.
  • Complimentary custom framing of students artwork by Fast Frame
