Dogwood Arts Festival Names Lisa Duncan New Executive Director

A 25 year Knoxville media marketing executive and a board member of the Dogwood Arts Festival, is named as the new executive director of the 49year-old organization effective June 9, 2008.

Lisa C. Duncan has been selected as the new Dogwood Arts Festival (DAF) executive director following a national search to fill the position. She presently is the director of marketing for the News Sentinel and is the co-chair for the upcoming 50 th Anniversary next year.

"The Board of Directors is extremely pleased to be able to have one of our own head up this extremely important organization in East Tennessee," said Ken Knight, chairman of the Dogwood Arts Festival board of directors. "Duncan is very well-known throughout the Greater Knoxville community and also possesses first-hand knowledge and ongoing relationships with our volunteers, DAF staff and the community.
These are extremely important factors when taking over the helm of this organization in order to hit the ground running."

Knight also said "she has successfully demonstrated throughout her career at East Tennessee's largest media group that she has been an influential leader responsible for multiple media management teams, accountable for both large and comprehensive budgets."

In addition, she was instrumental in creating the Women Today Expo and managed the Empty Stocking Fund, Academic Achievers, research, and special publications as well as the respective coordination with the community and local business,

As a longtime supporter of the Dogwood Arts Festival, she has served in a variety of positions including volunteer advisor, marketing and communications committee member, media and presenting sponsor, board advisor and board member. Also, Duncan has been a strong volunteer for Knoxville for nearly 30 years with other nonprofit groups such as the United Way and the Knoxville Area Chamber Partnership.

A native of Indiana, she received a B. S. degree in business administration from the University of Tennessee in 1982. Duncan is married to Dan Duncan, a premier cabinetmaker and artist who has exhibited his work at several Dogwood Arts Festival events over the years. The Duncan's, who reside in Halls, have three children: Perry, a 2006 graduate of East Tennessee State University; Megan, a member the 2008 University of Tennessee's graduation class, and Kathryn, a sophomore at Halls High School.

Dogwood Arts Festival Parade delayed.

Due to severe weather conditions the Dogwood Arts Festival Parade has been postponed until Friday, April 25th at 7 PM. More details will follow.

The 2008 Limited Edition Prints are ready!

You can buy one during the April 4th First Friday event at the Fine Art Show at Three Flights Up Gallery in the Emporium Building on Gay Street. Artist Don E. Urban will be signing the prints for 6-8 PM. Cost is $65 each. Hurry before they are sold out!!

The 2008 People's Choice Winner For The Limited Edition Print Has Been Named!

In 2006, the Board of Directors held a Strategic Planning Workshop to develop a stronger mission and vision for the Festival. It was determined that to ensure its future success it would be imperative to redefine and design programs and events that fit within the mission and vision while maintaining the historic value of the Festival that has been so vital to this community.
