The Knoxville Botanical Garden & Arboretum is a public garden enriching the Knoxville community and preserving the legacy of the Howell Nurseries.
In June 2001, a group of interested Knoxvillians formed a not-for-profit corporation for the purpose of creating a botanical garden and arboretum on the 44-acre site of a 200-year old nursery in Knoxville, Tennessee. Knoxville Botanical Garden sits on a ridge-top 5 minutes from downtown Knoxville surrounded by an urban community.
The Garden is located on the former property of the Joe N. Howell Nursery and the C.B. Howell Nursery. The Howell family's nursery business was originally established in 1786 and the site represents a significant cultural landscape in Knoxville's history. The property features details such as distinctive stone wallsand whimsical round buildings constructed by Joe Howell's staff, lush terraced gardens, exotic trees and woodlands, and a myriad of hoticultural splendors.
Knoxville Botanical Garden strives to preserve and restore the horticultural legacy and beauty of our historically significant site for all to enjoy, while creating a world-class botanical garden in the heart of Knoxville. This is a place to enjoy and explore year round. The facilities are open to the public 365 days a year and admission is free.
