GPS Start
- Trail begins at 5406 Sherwood Drive and 4534 Lyons View

As the featured 2006 Dogwood trail, the historic Westmoreland Trail offers a scenic drive, populated with landmark homes and gardens. This area’s history predates the Civil War with many of the homes and gardens embracing their Southern heritage. A few of the landmarks visible along the route are Knoxville’s first country club and golf course, the South’s oldest women’s club, and several homes built by famous architects. The Crescent Bend/Armstrong-Lockett House with its formal Italian gardens, the Dulin Home built by John Russell Pope, the preserved Confederate Memorial Hall, and the official residence of The University of Tennessee’s president built by John Fanz Staub are more of the Westmoreland Trail’s historical highlights. Many of these homes overlook the horseshoe bend of Loudon Lake and the distant Smoky Mountains. From other vantage points, The Tennessee River and the Cumberland mountain range are visible. The trail features a profusion of dogwood trees with fragile white blooms. Many of these expanding residential areas plant the celebrated Dogwood trees to preserve Knoxville’s beauty and contribute to its growing glory.
