Art Slam

Art Slam is a live art competition happening in Strong Alley (located between Market Square and Gay Street)! Artists have three hours to create one-of-a-kind paintings that are auctioned to benefit the Art in Public Places Mural Program. 12+ talented artists will be selected to participate in this year’s Art Slam. $600+ in awards will be given to participating artists. Artists will also receive 25% of the winning auction bid.

Large canvases (2’x3’ or 3’x3’) are provided free of charge. Artists can pick up their canvas in advance, to allow for a base coat (1 color) and sketching. Artists must bring all other materials to create their artworks onsite. Lighting will be provided (the alley will be dark before the event concludes) and easel are available by request.

Artists can begin painting at 5PM (event opens to the public 5:30-8:30PM). Pieces can be finished during the event or completed during the two week online auction period immediately following the event.

Artworks must be original and should not include images subject to copyright, should not be political in nature or inappropriate for all ages. Artists must be 18+ years of age. Artists are selected on a rolling basis, so apply now! The application formally closes on August 14th at 3:00pm EST.
