Chalk (Your) Walk

Chalk (Your) Walk Submission Closed! Artwork images and winners are posted on Facebook

We’ve seen you out there practicing, and now it’s time to put your skills to the test! Dogwood Arts is excited to announce the Chalk (Your) Walk Competition coming to YOUR neighborhood today though April 12th!

We’ve been inspired by the words of encouragement, messages of hope, and friendly reminders to wash your hands left on sidewalks and driveways all over the city over the past few weeks! Now Dogwood Arts is taking it up a notch––we want you to show us what inspires you. Is it the first responders, all of the brave doctors and nurses, leading the fight against COVID-19? Is it your dog––who you’re getting to spend a lot more time with now that you have to stay home? A song? A local artist?  Is it the dogwood trees bursting into bloom around your neighborhood?

No matter who or what it is that inspires you, we want to see!

How does it work?

  • Create a chalk masterpiece in your driveway, on the sidewalk in your neighborhood, on the fence in your backyard…wherever you want! Just make sure you’re following the current ‘Safer at Home’ guidelines from our local and state government.
  • Get creative––there are no boundaries or guidelines concerning size or subject
  • Submit photos of your finished artwork along with a short description of what it is and how it inspires you. We will collect entries through midnight on April 12th!
  • You can upload your photos online below or email submissions to by midnight on Sunday, April 12th. (If you email your submission, please be sure to include: Artist name and age, neighborhood (with zip code), and a brief description about what it is and how it inspires you.)

Next: We’ll post an album with all of the entries on our Facebook page on Monday, April 13th. The 5 photos with the most likes by midnight on Friday, April 17th will be the winners! Winning artists will receive a merchandise prize pack from Dogwood Arts and the chance to have their artwork featured on merchandise at the 2021 Chalk Walk in Market Square.

We’re going to miss being together in Market Square this year, but one thing is certain. Just like sidewalk chalk, with time the current crisis will fade. Keep being creative and sharing your talents––even if it’s just with the people in your neighborhood for now. We’ll be together again soon!
