KGF producers do a U-turn on KGF Chapter 3, now say ‘will not be starting KGF 3 anytime soon’
KGF executive producer Kartik Gowda has released a statement on social media stating that all rumours about KGF Chapter 3 are untrue and the production house has no plans of working on it anytime soon.
Just a day after KGF producer Vijay Kiragandur got fans’ hopes up about a third instalment of the blockbuster franchise, the series’ executive producer Karthik Gowda has taken a u-turn on the development. In a statement on social media on behalf of the production house Hombale Films, he stated that they have no plans to start KGF: Chapter 3 ‘anytime soon’. KGF: Chapter 1 and Chapter 2 both starred Yash in the lead. The films made ₹250 crore and ₹1170 crore at the box office respectively.
For weeks, there have been speculations that work on KGF: Chapter 3 has apparently begun. The star Yash added fuel to fire when he said in an interaction that he had discussed some scenes from the film with director Prasanth Neel. Producer Vijay Kiragandur even gave a timeline for the film’s release, saying they hoped to begin shooting later this year.
On Friday, speaking to Dainik Bhaskar, Vijay had said, "Director Prashant Neel is currently busy with Salaar. Around 30-35% of the shooting is done. The next schedule is slated to begin next week. We hope to complete it by October-November this year. So, we plan to begin the shoot for KGF after October this year. We hope to release the film by 2024."
He added that they wanted to create a Marvel-like universe for the franchise. "Going forward, we are going to create a Marvel kind of universe. We want to bring different characters from different movies and create something like Doctor Strange. The way it happened in Spider Man Home Coming or Doctor Strange. So that we can reach a wider audience easily,” he said.
There was hardly any growth evidenced by Jayeshbhai Jordaar as from Friday opening of Rs. 3.25 crores, the film moved to Rs. 4 crores on Saturday. Not that it was surprising since the writing was clear on the wall on Friday itself when footfalls remained largely static and critical as well as audience appreciation on the film stayed muted. In fact it wouldn't have been really surprising had the collections in fact stayed the same as Friday or may be even went down a bit. In that aspect, at least there is some improvement is there, though by no means good enough.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness also had a similar growth only as after collecting Rs..3.25 crores* on Friday, it brought in Rs. 4 crores* more on Saturday. The difference here though is that the film is in its second week and since the job has already been done for the film, it can live with whatever is now coming its way. Yes, the numbers are still on the much lower side since the opening Friday of the film was almost about to touch Rs. 30 crores and then Saturday and Sunday were in the upwards of Rs. 20 crores. Here, the film is struggling to even touch Rs. 5 crores.
Meanwhile, KGF: Chapter 2 [Hindi] is all set for a weekend of 5 crores as there was growth evidenced on Saturday. With Rs. 1.70 crores* more coming in, the film is making its case for a good enough weekend, as it could very well have gone down had competition from Jayeshbhai Jordaar and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness been challenging enough. Since that's not really the case, the film is managing to keep audiences interest, and in the process take its overall total to a mind-blowing Rs. 423.65 crores*.
It’s been a rise and shine scenario for Yash’s KGF Chapter 2 ever since its theatrical release. The pan-Indian release received love from all across the globe. All in all, the pre-release buzz was pretty high and so have been the profits! Scroll below for more details.
There was probably nothing that could go wrong with this film. Prashanth Neel was coming back with a stronger than ever magnum opus after the huge success of the first instalment. The casting was perfect and actors like Sanjay Dutt and Raveena Tandon even further pulled audiences into the mainstream belt. Word of mouth had been excellent too along with the critic reviews post-release.
Reportedly, KGF Chapter 2 is made on a century budget, i.e, 100 crores. It isn’t hidden that the movie is enjoying a glorious run with a stronghold even after big releases like Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness, Jersey, Runway 34 and Heropanti 2 that failed to connect with the audiences.
After the 31-day run, KGF Chapter 2 has earned a total collection of 836 crores* in all languages. If we subtract the cost from the total, that comes across around 736 crores. When converted into percentages, the numbers turn out to be 736%. It means it has earned a profit of 736% over its investment.
And with that, the Yash starrer has undoubtedly earned itself the super-duper hit status. With KGF Chapter 3 conversations already on the cards, one can only imagine where the next instalment is going to land.
But before that, it is to be seen where KGF Chapter 2 will conclude its lifetime collection. With no big release to dominate the theatre screens, it seems that the film could enjoy a couple of days more at the ticket windows.
It is Dhaakad, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 and Top Gun: Maverick along with some others make the next lot of anticipated releases.
