About the event

Hikes & Blooms: Dean's Woods Wildflower Hike


Experience: Dean’s Woods is a 25-acre jewel of biodiversity in South Knoxville owned by the University of Tennessee. The Woods are on steep hillsides above Spring Creek about a mile south of the UT Medical Center.  We will descend about 250 feet over a course of about half a mile along a tributary of Spring Creek, then turn west across the tributary (easy step-over) to walk just above Spring Creek and below a hillside adorned with bloodroot, Virginia bluebells, Trillium (4 or 5 species), larkspur, Dutchman’s breeches, squirrel corn, and other vernal flora. A white morph of Virginia bluebells is particularly interesting!
