Public Art Initiatives

Art in Public Places. Knoxville is full of large-scale art that adds character and beauty to our city streets and public spaces. Find inspiration around every corner, down every alley, even on the sidewalk!

Thanks to supporters of our Art in Public Places program, sculptures and murals are concentrated in our city center and spread throughout the surrounding counties as part of everyday life. These works of art are here not only for the pleasure of art lovers, but also for community members and visitors who might not otherwise seek it out. Our public art serves as a clear indicator of Knoxville's thriving local culture.

Sculpture Program

Artists from across the country travel to Knoxville every year to install and share their works of art with our community. This annually rotating, outdoor exhibition includes sculptures installed in prominent locations throughout Knoxville, Oak Ridge, Maryville, and Alcoa.

Mural Program

Our mural program beautifies public spaces, provides opportunities for local and regional artists to create new artwork, and improves access to the arts for everyone.
