Dogwood Arts is proud to present Sleep Cycle, a solo exhibition by Knoxville-based painter Lauren Adams. The show opens Friday, September 5th from 5–8PM during the Downtown Knoxville First Friday ArtWalk, with a second reception on October 3rd.
Adams’ work invites viewers to see the landscapes of sleep in a new light. In her series Nocturnal Landscapes and The Dream Vortex, she transforms the folds and textures of bedding into sweeping terrains and kaleidoscopic portals — visual reflections of the dream world we all share. “By opening your mind to what a landscape is,” she explains, “you can be aware of the marks we make in our lives, physically, mentally, and spiritually.”

Step into a multi-sensory experience surrounded by Adams’ dream-inspired works. The evening begins with a talk by artist and psychology PhD student Asante Knowles, followed by an artist-led discussion with Adams, and concludes with a meditative sound bath by Luminous Mary. Together, the program explores the intersections of art, psychology, and sound while inviting participants to relax and reflect.
About the Artist
Lauren Adams is a classically trained painter whose practice is rooted in Flemish and Dutch oil traditions. After two decades teaching art in East Tennessee public schools, she continues to explore the relationship between the physical and the subconscious through her paintings. Her current work transforms the familiar — bedsheets, quilts, and places of rest — into universal landscapes of memory, dreaming, and renewal.
